Special Jury Award for Innovative Biotech Women Entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu
The 20-acre Golden Jubilee Biotech Park near Chennai, the first of its kind dedicated to women entrepreneurs in life sciences, has created over 500 women-led startups and trained 10,000 women scientists in the last 20 years since its inception.
Established in 2001, the Park is a unique venture between the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of Government of India and the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.
The Park currently houses 25 women-led companies that clock over Rs 100 crore in turnover annually. These companies employ 1,000 people directly and provide employment to at least 10,000 people indirectly. The latest addition to the Park is BioNest, a state-of-the-art, 5,000 sq.ft co-working space with plug-n-play facility that allows innovative women entrepreneurs to establish quickly the ‘proof of concept’ of their innovative ideas that can ultimately lead to product commercialization.
The Park, run by the Golden Jubilee Biotech Park Society, is a first of its kind integrated model in the country from R&D to manufacturing facility under one roof. Since inception Park is committed to encourage and empower Women Entrepreneurs who are in the Biotech, Life Science stream from across country and especially from Tamil Nadu. The Park has 20 Unit modules each of 1000 sq.ft., offers entrepreneurs the scaling up possibility. Furthermore dedicated parcels of 0.25 acres of land available for setting up own manufacturing unit for large scale production.
The Park has been recognized by BIRAC – DBT – Govt., of India, and granted Seed Fund of Rs.2.00 crores to support the qualifying early stage startups on an equity basis.
The Park has 2.8 acres of Land for expansion. The land has been ear marked for expansion in the ‘Confluence area of Medtech – Biotech’ field which is an emerging need in today’s scenario and will attract various Techpreneurs in the field of Electronics, IT, Medical Equipments etc and will create 500+ high value jobs in the near future.

Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises - ABLE is a not-for-profit pan-India forum that represents the Indian Biotechnology Sector. It was launched in April 2003, after industry leaders felt a need to form an exclusive forum to represent the Indian Biotechnology Sector.
ABLE has over 400 members from all across India representing all verticals of the sector like Agribiotech, Bio-pharma, Industrial biotech, Bioinformatics, Investment banks and Venture Capital firms, leading Research and Academic Institutes and Law Firms and Equipment Suppliers.
The primary focus of ABLE is to accelerate the pace of growth of the Biotechnology sector in India, through partnering with the Government in their biotechnology initiatives to deliver optimal policies and create a positive regulatory environment, encouraging entrepreneurship and investment in the sector, providing a platform for domestic and overseas companies to explore collaboration and partnerships, forging stronger links between academia and industry and showcasing the strengths of the Indian biotech sector.
ABLE showcases India’s biotech sector through events like BioEconomy Conclave, Voice for BT public speaking contest, brings out India BioEconomy Report, BioEconomy Reports for states like Karnataka and sets up the India Pavilion at the BIO International event in the USA annually.
ABLE Council of Presidents, that comprises of all past presidents of the organization, provides valuable inputs for the growth of the Biotech business ecosystem, leveraging their multi-sectoral expertise.
ABLE thus catalyses a symbiotic interface between the industry, the government, academic and research institutes and domestic and international investors.
